What is Counselling?

Counselling is a meeting of two (or more) people in special circumstances that foster trust and openness. It is a conversation, led by you, with a highly trained and experienced professional.

It is often said that counselling does not involve advice giving but sometimes a new way of approaching life’s difficulties and dilemmas is what you come away with. As a counsellor I will not tell you what to do but I will help you make your own choices.

A lot of people choose to see a counsellor for their combination of experience of people and life but also their objectivity or impartiality in the individual’s life.  This sets the counsellor apart from friends and family who are also good to talk to but can have their own firm opinions.

I will tailor my approach to your needs and will sometimes offer proven strategies, techniques and skills to increase your coping. This individualized approach and compassionate, thoughtful relationship is the added value counselling offers over self-help materials.
